The compelling narrative of conservation is a story of responsible consumption. Seaver shares insight into how sustainable food is not just about what products we use, but just as importantly, how we use them. Also, His forthcoming book For Cod And Country (Sterling, Spring 2011) is a book of recipes that inspires ocean conservation through the experience that we all share—dinner.
  • 60 minute discussion w/ Q&A, slide show, along with book signing.

Becoming: Photographs from the Wedge Collection
This exhibition brings together approximately 110 works by more than 60 artists from Canada, the United States, Africa and throughout the African Diaspora to explore how new configurations of identity have been shaped by the photographic portrait within the last century.

The Deconstructive Impulse: Women Artists Reconfigure the Signs of Power, 1973-1991
For years, the prevailing belief has been that following the identity-based artwork of the late 1960s and early 1970s, progressive women artists put aside their differences with men to help them reveal how the mass media and global capitalism control visual culture. The Nasher Museum presents a new exhibition, The Deconstructive Impulse, showing that the role of women artists has long been undervalued in accounts of that work.

A selection of Women Artists From the Nasher Museum’s Collection
An installation from the permanent collection complements The Deconstructive Impulse with work by groundbreaking women artists including Louise Bourgeois, Cindy Sherman, Lorna Simpson and Kara Walker.

Nasher Museum of Art Auditorium
This documentary film, written and directed by Ted Bogosian T '73, addresses the crucial Quality-of-Life question: What can medical care do for you when it cannot save your life? In 2006, Kim Lyerly, director of Duke Comprehensive Cancer Center, invited social worker Tina Staley to implement her personalized cancer support program, PATHFINDERS, at Duke. The research team enrolled 50 patients with metastasized breast cancer, who met regularly and communicated via telephone and e-mail with a "Pathfinder" - a Duke social worker trained in the program's tenets, who helped them identify inner strengths and develop positive coping skills. WHAT LOVE IS follows these cancer patients and their caregivers through the two-year program designed to provide a better way of life - and death - for cancer patients and their families everywhere. Guest of Honor: Mary D.B.T Semans. Introducer: Rev. Sam Wells, Duke Chapel. Q&A, reception to follow! Cosponsored by Fox Point Pictures.
