Alumni gifts help promising students become Forever Duke
Duke Alumni Association administers two merit scholarship programs that offer a Duke education to outstanding students. The foresight and thoughtfulness of Duke Alumni have made this possible.
Alumni Endowed Undergraduate Scholarship
This full-tuition scholarship funds eight semesters of a four-year undergraduate program so long as the scholar remains in good standing. It also offers up to $6,500 for a summer abroad program and the opportunity to meet informally with other scholarship recipients. Duke Alumni Association established this scholarship in 1979 to recognize the academic and personal achievements of children or grandchildren of Duke alumni accepted for undergraduate admission to Duke. We award the scholarship on the basis of academic achievement, leadership performance, and meritorious activity outside the classroom. Scholarship recipients must also demonstrate some financial need as determined by the director of Financial Aid.
Trinity Scholarships
Duke's alumni in the Carolinas have generously funded the Trinity Scholarships to honor Duke's origins as Trinity College in Randolph County, North Carolina. We award them on a rotating basis to attract some of the most gifted students residing within specific geographic areas of the Carolinas.
These three Trinity Scholarships will be awarded for 2011-2012:
Clem and Hayes Clement Trinity Scholarship
Need-based support to a North Carolina student admitted as a first-year student to Trinity College of Arts and Sciences.
Herman W. Bernard Trinity Scholarship
To a student who at the time of application legally resides in the High Point area, including Archdale, Jamestown, the community of Trinity, and unincorporated areas of Guilford, Randolph, Davidson, and Forsyth Counties adjacent to High Point and deemed part of the city.
A. J. Tannenbaum Trinity Scholarship
Awarded to a North Carolina student, with first preference given to Guilford County residents.
How can I be considered?
You don't need to submit an additional application for merit scholarships. We select finalists from among the applicants to Duke each year based on their complete credentials, including essays, academic work, extracurricular activities, and recommendations. To be considered for a need-based scholarship, be sure to complete the required financial aid forms. We notify finalists via e-mail in March.
