The Chronicle Alumni Network (CAN) began in 2005, based on discussions at the Chronicle centennial celebration the previous year. CAN seeks to,
• Support The Chronicle and independent student journalism at Duke, politically and financially. • Provide advice and training to Chronicle staff, as requested. • Connect present and former Chronicle staff with job opportunities and professional development. • Update former staff and others about Chronicle developments.
In the past year CAN has,
• Gathered recommendations for CAN activities from current students and alumni. • Become affiliated with Duke Student Publishing Company (DSPC), The Chronicle’s publisher. • Created the first-ever Advisory Board of alumni journalists to support Chronicle staff. • Organized a fall journalism weekend, in cooperation with Duke Magazine and the University's DeWitt Wallace Center for Media and Democracy.
CAN is an affiliated unincorporated organization of DSPC, a 501(c)(3) public charity.
