??Duke Trivia??
What British author, visiting Duke in 1937, called it "a whole city of gray stone"?
*Check out Alumni News for answer.

College on the Horizon?
If your child is approaching high-school age, it's time to talk college. And the DAA is here to help you jump-start the admissions process.

Each June, the Alumni Admissions Program hosts its Alumni Admissions Forum, an all-day conference on campus for approximately 300 alumni parents and their children all about undergraduate admissions at Duke, and in general. To see the most recent forum brochure for topics covered, go to www.dukealumni.com/2006forum.

We mail advance information about the forum to alumni with children who are rising tenth-, eleventh-, and twelfth-graders. Be sure to share your children's birth dates with us so that you'll be notified when the time comes for considering colleges. Send your child's data to bluedevil@duke.edu, or to Alumni and Development Records, Box 90581, Durham, NC 27708-0581.

Welcoming the Class of 2010
It's summertime, and Duke alumni and parents are opening their homes in cities around the world to entering first-year students for send-off parties. These popular events provide a wonderful opportunity for soon-to-be Blue Devils to meet their classmates, for current students to share insider knowledge about Duke, and for parents of new students to meet and mingle with Duke alumni and friends in a warm, informal setting. Want to be a part of the welcome? Go to www.dukealumni.com/sendoff for a list of dates and places in your area.
Focus on the Future
The DAA is in the field, sharing news about its new strategic plan, foreverduke.com, particularly the emphasis on meeting the needs of its affinity groups. The alumni association's oldest and best-organized group is the Duke University Black Alumni Connection (DUBAC). On January 20, the DAA invited Washington, D.C.-area black alumni to a focus-group breakfast and, on March 7, held a similar gathering in Durham, in conjunction with the opening of the Grant Hill art collection at Duke's new Nasher Museum of Art. The purpose is to help DUBAC connect and engage alumni, with one another and with the university. Topics included informing African-American alumni on the current state of diversity on campus, minority admissions, and celebrating Duke's first black graduates. The DAA will host another alumni focus group on August 10 in New York. Plans are being made for an Atlanta focus group in late summer. Go to www.dubac.org to learn how you can get involved.
Active Listening
If you've been a graduate of Duke for a decade or less, you're defined as "young alumni," and we're venturing off campus to find out what we can do for you. This summer, the DAA has scheduled young-alumni focus groups in Boston, Washington, Seattle, and New York. To learn more about special programs designed with you in mind, click Young Alumni.
