Campus Expansion
Duke's trustees recently approved a master plan for expanding the campus, with Phase 1 focusing along Campus Drive, between East and West campuses. The design concept for development over the next 50 to 75 years was presented to the trustees by Pelli Clarke Pelli Architects (PCPA). After an extensive analysis of existing conditions, such as the terrain, transit routes and other issues, the PCPA team concluded that expansion along Campus Drive provides many practical, environmental, and aesthetic advantages over the university's previous plan to build closer to Erwin Road on Central Campus.
